A few months ago, we trapped this cat at a colony. He's about nine and had been TNR'd years ago by someone else. Someone told me
  • this seen him and goes had her looked and then sent this photo and we immediately sprang info action.

  • He had to be hospitalized for several days and had to stay with me for recovery. It was only meant to be temporary until he was well enough to be returned.
  • I've worked with a lot of cats, but he was the most feral cat I've encountered. He scratched my hand
  • multiple times when I was putting a food bowl in his crate. I eventually had to start using an empty
  • water bottle to keep him at bay while I was giving him food or cleaning his litter box.
  • I didn't have high hopes for him as an indoor cat long term.
  • But this is him today. He is a total lap cat. He meows at me for food or attention and never growls or hisses. He's so attached that I don't think I'd be able to part with him.

  • Annual-Beautiful7164 Thank you so much you changed this little guy's life
  • widowscarlet A beautiful story, thank you for caring for him in his senior years.
  • Actias_Loonie He was probably terrified from being sick and injured. Once he started feeling better, I bet he understood you were helping him. Good job!
  • grassisgoth I love a happy ending. What's his name?

  • Malsperanza The. Best. How long did it take for him to flip the switch? My best time was 4 days. I do mostly fostering of mama cats with litters, but I was asked to take a feral who needed cage rest because he had an injured foot. Here he is on day 1: greasy fur, airplane ears, couldn't be touched even with a backscratcher. He hated me. Day 4 is in the next comment. I don't know his story before rescue, but he's living the king's life in a home in Utah now.

  • AnotherCrazyCatDude Aww!! It took about three months with Rolo. The first month, we made zero progress. The second month, he stopped scratching and growling, just a little hissing. By the third month, he came out to greet me at meal times and then one day he kind of turned into a new cat.

  • I really wish I'd taken a video journal of his progress, but initially I was focused on my safety, and I never imagined how much progress he would make.
