Nine nannies ban woman from park playgroup for slacking off, she fires back by filing complaints to bosses at their jobs: 'She’s making things difficult'

Playgroups are supposed to be about goldfish crackers, bubbles, and a little sanity for the adults, not high-school-level drama. But one nanny found herself in the middle of a messy dispute after she and others decided to kick out a member who never pulled her weight.

The group had a simple system with nine nannies that rotated responsibilities. Once a month, you bring snacks, drinks, and an activity. It could be something as easy as fruit and Cheerios, plus chalk, bubbles, or water balloons. But Alexandra, a newer nanny, showed up her first month with one tiny pack of dollar-store chalk for twenty kids and nothing else. Another time, she claimed she was sick but arrived anyway after someone else had already covered her turn. Another month, she didn't show at all.

  • Have you discussed that aspect of the situation with your boss? Maybe the other nanny can back you up with what you suspect is happening, as well as, you for her?

  • For future, social contracts like this are tricky. She's clearly blaming you for being ejected from the group. You and your friend took on the leadership roles, which means you're taking on risk for very little gain. Professionally speaking I'd recommend either stepping back or having set "contract" for the group so you can point to it in the future with issues like this.

  • Keep your heads down around the nutty nanny. Her behavior is kind of proving the point of why you booted her. You're best served by doing whatever you can to avoid her without it causing a significant stir.
