7-year-old kid laughs at grocery store cashier for working "too slow", customer reprimands him after his entitled mom refuses to apologize: 'He just insulted someone doing their job'

There are some shared experiences we all had as kids, and going grocery shopping with our parents is definitely one of them. Even more specifically, we all experienced that awkward moment when our mom left us at the cash register while she went to get something she forgot, and we had to stand there and stare at the cashier while everyone else was waiting for her to return.

Well, the kid below might not feel the same awkwardness we all felt as kids, since he had no problem laughing at the cashier for working too slowly. His mom, who heard the comments, had no intention of telling her child that the comment was not appropriate, so another customer had to step in. They refused to let the kids believe that saying things like that to workers is okay, and tried to say that to the boy gently. His mom, however, didn't appreciate a stranger doing her job of educating her son, so a dispute at the grocery store ensued.

    AITA for telling a stranger her kid shouldn’t talk to people that way?

    So this happened yesterday at the grocery store. I was in line behind a woman and her son, maybe 6 or 7 years old.

    The cashier was a younger guy, probably early 20s, and you could tell he was new, moving a little slow, double- checking things on the register.

    My dad says people like you make everyone late!" The cashier kind of froze. The mom just laughed and said, "He's such a truth teller." I don't usually say anything, but it rubbed me the wrong way.

    Now I'm wondering if I crossed a line. I wasn't trying to parent someone else's kid, but I also didn't want to just stand there while a little boy learned that it's okay to be rude to workers.

  • When I was a kid, I didn't even dare to look at the cashiers' eyes, let alone insult them to their faces.
