Aunt takes her 11-year-old niece on a surprise luxury trip to Miami, Disney World, and New York after the girl’s parents excluded her from family vacation with her brothers to Mexico, sparking drama: 'They said I spoiled her and undermined them'

Firstly, we just can't grasp the idea of excluding one child from a family vacation, whether it's at the request of another sibling or not. Otherwise, it wouldn't be called a family vacation, it'd be called a "how to make your child feel neglected" vacation. So, we fully support this hero of an aunt who swooped in to make her niece feel seen and appreciated, something her parents clearly failed to do when they took her four older brothers to Mexico.

The parents had asked the aunt to watch their daughter while they were away, but lucky for the 11-year-old, her aunt just so happened to have a work trip scheduled in Orlando and New York. What better way to lift a young girl's spirits than by taking her to Disneyland and close enough to the Empire State Building that she could almost hug it? It's safe to say we all know who's getting the Aunt of the Year award!

However, this isn't exactly a Disney fairytale. When the parents returned from their trip, they had plenty to say about their daughter's last-minute adventure, and let's just say, they weren't too happy about it.

  • These parents have even kicked it up a notch by lying to their extended family that this aunt flew their daughter halfway across the country without their permission, when they knew very well that she was going with her! We don't know what's worse: making their daughter feel like her happiness is not a priority or lying to their whole family about it?

    My niece (11) is the youngest child with 4 older brothers. She's also the youngest cousin/grandchild and the only girl.

    I have some clients in Miami so l arranged for us to go there for 5 days, drive up to Orlando for 3 days, then fly to New York for 2 days, where I also had to get some work done.

    She had a blast. We spent a day in Disney world, went to 2 broadway shows, spent most of our time in Florida on the beach, did a lot of shopping, got room service for the first time, and our tickets were upgraded so we flew first class on our way home.

    Her parents are mad that I spoiled her and undermined them so I don't get to see her as much as I used to (I'm still their after school childcare so I see her a few days a week) and they're going around telling extended family that I took their kid across the country without permission because I was upset about her being punished for being rude

It seems like they are trying to spoil their sons to make up for their daughter being ill and getting attention from others. You are a wonderful Aunt for treating your niece special!!

    OP Visible_Nature5464 Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of them. My sons are all out of the house so I have space for her to sleep over and we try to do that every now and then to give her a break

When you said "so I took her on her trip myself" did you mean that there was another trip BEFORE the Florida/NY trip? or was that what you referred to as "her trip"? Because I'm actually in an argument with someone who insists that you took your niece on a birthday trip and then later on the Florida/NY trip.

    OP Visible_Nature5464 There was. One night in a beach town 2.5ish hours away. Hotel, gas, food, and presents came out to around $500. She wanted to go on the trip with her mom but her mom refused because her dad and brothers weren't invited.

    OP Visible_Nature5464 I don't have a problem with her crying. She understands that when I say no it's a firm no. If she needs to go into the bedroom and cry for a little bit that's totally fine. She usually comes out wanting to cuddle within 20 minutes
