    I was in a one-on-one with HR about "professional communication tone". Basically, someone complained my Slack replies were too short. Mid-

  • We ended up talking about pets for 20 minutes. She even showed me her cat. Meeting ended with "let's circle back next week" but she never scheduled it again.
  • Since then, I've noticed people soften up when they see him in frame. Moral of the story: remote work needs more dogs, fewer managers.

  • . NeonPhyzics · 2h ago That HR did not want to have that conversation. What an asinine thing for a manager to make their HR rep do..."your text replies are ...too short"
  • What the fuck are you supposed to do ?!? If it was longer it would be an email
  • Sloppykrab. 2h ago I think HR needs to tell people to not assume tone in text form, since there is none.
  • Sanfam 2h ago For the entirety of the p mic where I worked remote, I was also fostering rescued barn kittens in a basement office with window ledges against the ceiling. For most of the day,
  • anyone on a call with me. would have the experience of seeing anywhere form one to eight kittens rampaging behind me in an effort to reach the window, to occupy the window, to then stay on the narrow ledge and not fall off.
  • On multiple occasions where conversations were becoming "serious and important", someone would crack up as they saw kittens
  • launch themselves at the window and miss, clawing their way down the wall or simply smashing right into it; or seeing a clump of napping cats simply off off;
  • or witness multiple cats nodding along from over my shoulder as various faces appeared and disappeared from my magic box. Pets are a winner.
