'Kids these days': Daughter drives dad to work while his car is in repairs, but after yelling at her for skipping one morning drive due to a strong migraine, she refuses to drive him anymore, he accuses her of holding a grudge

Family favors are always a pleasure…that is, at least until you get yelled at for not being available 24/7! This daughter drives her dad to work as his car is in repair. They've got a really cute, little carpool situation going on, which really opened a door for some bonding time! However, one morning, his daughter had a terrible migraine and did not feel fit to drive either of them to work, so she asked her father if he could rather catch a lift with one of his colleagues. Instead of understanding, he flipped out…and in that moment, she vowed to never drive him to work again! 

Although it is common for families to argue, often not seeing eye-to-eye, those arguments normally last a total of all 2 seconds! So when this daughter wasn't backing down on her decision, her father accused her of holding a grudge. We guess all families are different. Some are more forgiving, and others…not so much. But are they really going to let a little migraine and a 20-minute drive with Jerry from IT come between them?

  • We understand this daughter's frustrations, and we know just how annoying those ‘Kids these days..’ comments can be. Dragging in a whole generation for one of your actions really makes the whole case feel a lot more dramatic! But, we think it may be possible that she, too, could be matching that dramatic status.   • OP Appropriate-Map5027 Thanks for saying that. I agree, a genuine apology would go a long way. Nobody's perfect, but taking responsibility and acknowledging how their actions affected someone else can really fix a lot of tension. It doesn't have to be dramatic, just honest.

  • Effective-Several Nope. NTJ. You can clearly tell him that since he decided you were unreliable, then he needs to find somebody who can reliably get him to work. I've had migraines. They suck. And I totally understand why you didn't want to drive, because you didn't feel that you could do that and still be safe. Your dad doesn't understand that obviously, so now he can get his own ride.

  • Bobsmith38594 NTJ. If you had a headache severe enough to keep you from getting out of bed, then you weren't fit to drive. Let your dad take ride shares, public transportation, and ubers if he wants to be so mouthy. Don't cave either, he owes you an apology. Your mom can play his chauffeur if she is so keen on being a floor mat (read: "keep the peace").

He probably backed into something and didn't even know. His goodness to me over the years passed through my mind and I just asked him to get it fixed and smiled. He had it for two weeks!
