Airbnb guest pitches a tent at host's front yard after host cancels the reservation last minute, spends the night there despite host's protests: ‘He left me stranded’

This story helped us decide, once and for all, what is better – an Airbnb or a simple hotel room. The answer? hotel room all the way.

Why? Well, because when you book a hotel room, there is no way for the reservation to get randomly canceled because the host doesn't feel like hosting. Generally, you get what you signed up for in a hotel room; no surprises, no weird hosts, and no need to deal with customer service.

How does this story teach us this valuable lesson? Well, this Airbnb guest was supposed to stay in a room in the host's house for one night. But when they got there, no one was at the house, and the host was nowhere to be seen. When the guest finally managed to get a hold of him, the host reported that he would not make it home that night and that he had to cancel the reservation.

  • Illegal-Avocado-2975 NTA, but I do have to ask why you didn't contact Airbnb for some help? If the host cancels within 30 days of your check-in, Airbnb is supposed to find you an alternative lodging. If your host cancels your home reservation - Airbnb Help Center

  • diaryofanother NTA. What a horrible situation to be left in. He should have just let you in the house at midnight when he got home. He was happy for you to be homeless for the night. What if you didn't have a tent or couldn't find somewhere else. This sort of behaviour should get him kicked off air BnB

  • Apprehensive Mark_20 I love that you pitched a tent in his yard in response to him cancelling on you wayyyyyyyyy too late for you to rebook anywhere else. And after not offering you any other accommodations, and not refunding you, rather, promising one vaguely in the future. He didn't leave a negative review because he was the one in the wrong, and would have been roasted. Feel free to do so yourself.

  • indicabunny NTA and you should've left a bad review. This is why I think hotels are superior. They actually have to practice hospitality. They clean up after you. They attend to you. They provide what you need and don't make you feel like an imposition for booking and staying with them. F k AirBNB and their miserable "hosts".
