    Past owner wants cat back

So about a month and a half ago I found a cat out side my house. After bringing the cat into my house and checking for a tag I
  • 03
took a few pictures and posted them online to search for the owners. She had a collar and was
  • 04
very friendly so I assumed she had one.
  • 05
We kept her inside (fed and watered) for the night and took her to get checked for a microchip the next day. She had
  • 06
one so we got the information and contacted them, I don't have the screenshots because they are on my mom's phone but they
  • 07
didn't respond and after calling/texting for a few days they sent a message saying they would
  • 08
come get her later that day. It had been at least 4/5 days at that point.
  • 09
We waited for them to come to our house or contact us but they never did that day. The next day
  • 10
we attempted to contact them again, no response. The online posts were still up and no one responded to them.
  • 11
We waited until we had had the cat in our house for around three weeks before I decided that I would adopt the cat and take
  • 12
care of her. (I named her Pixie) Since then I've been slowly buying things for her and taking care of her.
  • 13
But three days ago my mom started to get calls from the former owners again, leaving messages about wanting the cat
  • 14
back. We haven't responded to them at all because at this point we don't really want to give the cat back. She seemed abandoned
  • 15
and the owners knew we had her for over a month yet didn't contact us or want her back until now?
  • 16
If they had said something about not being able to take her back when we first contacted them or that they needed someone to
  • 17
    Cat
  • 18
watch her for awhile, I would have done it and given her back but since they just abandoned her and suddenly want her back I'm
  • 19
questioning if they are decent people and if I should return her.
  • 20
I have considered asking for money in exchange to get her back, at least $500 to compensate
  • 21
for the time and money I've spent on her but I also kind of just want to ignore or block them. What should I do?
  • 22
kikkkkkkj 11h ago I wouldn't give her back. How can it take you a month to look for the pet you "care" so much about.
  • 23
Good on you for saving the cat and I hope it has the best life with you, especially
  • 24
since you seem far more caring than whoever the owners are.

jbunkerhou 10h ago If it was my cat I'd have been there the same day if not the same hour. When
  • 26
mine went missing I roamed the neighborhood constantly looking for her (luckily she came home). Keep pixie and block the no good old owners.
