We have officially hit the time of year where stepping outside feels like a personal attack to your physical well-being. It's scientifically proven—or at least, I tell myself this to justify my screen time—that looking at wholesome animal content can lower your heart rate. In the middle of the holiday rush, we are constantly bombarded with "to-do" lists and social obligations that require us to be perceived by other humans. Animal posts offer the opposite. They are a low-stakes emotional reset.

Living in the Midwest, I’ve developed a very specific hibernation mode that kicks in the second the thermometer hits single digits. My current evening plans consist of sitting so close to the space heater I might actually fuse with it, while my cat judges me from the safety of a heated bed I bought her because I’m a pushover.
