After nearly twenty years without a cat and a lifetime of never having one at all, this couple suddenly went from zero to two tiny roommates. Penelope and Pearl arrived together, six weeks old and already stealing hearts. Everything about their welcome has been thoughtful, from vet care and microchips to carefully chosen litter boxes, toys, and cozy spots to nap.

They are still settling in, learning the rhythms of the apartment and the people who adore them. One kitten hangs back a little, quietly observing, while the other wastes no time claiming laps and purring at full volume. Mealtimes are already a highlight, followed by serious grooming sessions and immediate naps that look suspiciously like total food-induced bliss.

Working from home means constant companionship, which seems to be helping everyone adjust faster. Small milestones keep stacking up, like hopping gates, exploring new corners, and discovering which laps are best for post-meal cuddles. It is the kind of early pet experience that feels equal parts chaotic and magical. With every purr and nap, it is clear these two are already making the apartment feel more like home.

    worming and two rounds of vaccinations. We have our initial vet visit later this afternoon. Just getting them acclimated to our apartment and trying to spend as much time to them as possible (I WFH so I'm always within sight of them, trying to get them used to my presence).

    We got stainless steel litter boxes (one upstairs and one downstairs, although they haven't been downstairs yet), a water fountain, a new soft-sided crate, a bunch of toys, a scratching post that just arrived a little bit ago, and a tension rod cat tree coming next week.

    Day 1, we played with them for a few hours and fed them lunch (1pm) and dinner (8pm) when we eat lunch and dinner. Gave them as much pets as they'd allow. Got a pet gate to keep them in a room but Pearl was able to jump over it already.

    lap and just purrs like crazy! Then they both start cleaning themselves and go back into their crate and nap from the food coma. I expect they'll be out and ready to explore some more once they wake up. Can't stop smiling with these two around!
