Gen X has been living on a Flintstone vitamin, fried bologna sandwiches, and a dream for the last several decades.

This generation wasn't always a collection of bad attitudes and nihilism, but as life punches you in the face, one learns a few boxing moves in the process. And let me tell ya', Gen X has been in the fighting ring since day one. However, in the face of adversity, Gen X proved to be the toughest nuts to crack in the general populous, riding the high of their teenage years in the 80s all the way through to their Facebook Renaissance era. While Gen X is often forgotten by their peers, overshadowed by the rivalry between Boomers and Millennials, they've spent that time under the radar creating the best music, drinking water straight from the hose, and cultivating the funniest dark humor jokes.

Alas, from the muck and the mire rises a generation of tough cookies, who would never repeat the mistakes of our beloved Artax from NeverEnding Story. Gen X refuses to sink in the Swamp of Sadness and instead band together to reminisce on the original high-quality Tupperwares from Granny, the cassette tape collection in the attic, and the hot rod posters that still make them froth for their dream car: A 1967 Cutlass Supreme.

If you're a Gen X man, there's a good chance that your name is Dave, Scotty, Phil, or a raunchy version of Richard. For some reason, moms in the ‘60s and ’70s were really excited about those few names, and thus, inundated the high school halls of the '80s with the likes of every classic jock, prom queen, nerd, or freak stereotype. Like the Karens and the Staceys of the world, the Daves rule Gen X and will forever be consecrated in the hot name hall of fame.
Do you remember any Dave's from your yearbook? Odds are, if you still have those old dusty artifacts lying around the house somewhere, you can scroll through your backpage signatures and find at least one Gen Xer classic. Until then, keep dreaming of the nostalgia of permed hair, muscle car-driving, tough kids who drank from the hose and piled up in the back of their dad's station wagon. Those were simpler times indeed.
