Uncle uses AI to edit wedding pictures, loses the originals, and leaves the newlyweds with artificial‑looking images instead of memories: ‘The groom's face didn't even look like him anymore’

If this story weren't so funny, it would be sad. The happy couple doesn't have real wedding photos anymore, but what they do have is an eternal cautionary tale. Generations from now, someone will open that wedding album and wonder why every woman looks like a 2026 Instagram model, and every guy has the exact same jawline.  

This is what happens when one overconfident uncle meets artificial intelligence and a little too much free time. He promised professional photos but delivered a collection of digital clones that look more ready to sell skincare than celebrate matrimony. No one's face looks quite right. Everyone's skin is airbrushed into oblivion. It's less a wedding and more a press release for AI's ego problem.  

The tragic twist is that he deleted the originals. Gone forever. Obliterated in the name of "fixing bad lighting." Only an uncle could have that level of confidence, the kind that treats irreversible decisions like light touch-ups. He didn't improve the photos, oh no, he permanently deleted everyone's pores.  

We all know a version of this guy, someone who's like this, and for a reason I cannot comprehend, Uncle is almost always their favorite title. The tech enthusiast who doesn't understand the tools but loves telling everyone he does. The kind who watches one YouTube tutorial and starts thinking of himself as a visionary. He probably uploaded the results proudly, not realizing he'd turned the bride and groom into two slightly melting Sims.

  • In a way, it’s poetic. The guests with blurry phone pictures accidentally became documentary heroes. Their imperfect shots are now history. The only proof the real people existed before Uncle Visionary AI‑fied them into oblivion. It’s a perfect little time capsule of modern life: too much confidence, too much tech, and no understanding that sometimes a little imperfection is the only thing keeping the memory human.

Just last week, I was editing a batch of photos that had considerable "noise." I used Denoise in Photoshop per usual, but the subjects turned out looking like Al creatures. I really had to dig to find the old school denoiser option that doesn't use A.I. Again, that doesn't dismiss the many errors he made and your resulting loss. We couldn't afford it along with the rest of the ceremony (it was a wedding in home, thats how tight it was.) There was no way we were getting a photographer, so it was a god send when he offered to do it (hell send, now we know) If he hadnt offered, I probably would have just taken photos myself. It wouldn't be fancy or amazing, but it also wouldn't be Al. When he offered, I assumed he had more talent and

  • lamchefCJ I had this happen pre-Al. My kid's senior pictures--the photographer, who did at least half of the senior pix in our area, had just gotten Photoshop (this was over 20 years ago). When he gave me the pix, I said, "Wow, the film processing company did a terrible job of editing these!" That's when I learned that these were digital shots that he'd tried to edit himself. My kid's nose was missing in one photo! His teeth ran together into one long uni-tooth in another! I was honked off, tbh.

  • FiveHoursAhead Does anyone have any suggestions on how to discuss this topic with photographers? My fiance and I are just starting the planning process and I've seen a lot of Al photo editing horror stories on this and other subs. I know contracts are usually involved, is there a way for us to put in our own contract/stipulations that Al is not to be used under any circumstances?
