"Rescues build a type of bond with you that feels other worldly."

I adopted my dog about six years ago from my local k I shelter. When I first got him, it was obvious
  • 03
he was abused, and he was so scared of everything. He couldn't even walk on a leash.
  • 04
Sudden movements terrified him. He would crawl instead of walk to stay as small as possible. In
  • 05
the past six years, he's made so much progress. He's hardly even the same dog. He's the
  • 06
smartest dog I've ever had, and he understands so many "commands" that I have never
  • 07
explicitly taught him. Currently, I'm nine months pregnant. My dog has been so helpful. He fetches my
  • 08
shoes. Picks things up and carries them when I can't bend over. He is so gentle and cuddles so much with
  • 09
my stomach. I've never thought I could love my dog more, but something incredible recently
  • 10
happened. My husband suffers from ep. y. He is on medication, but
  • 11
unfortunately, his ey is medication resistant meaning he will likely always have
  • 12
some form of seziures, even if frequency is reduced. Recently, I was out at a friend's house. My
  • 13
husband took my dog out to potty when suddenly my husband had a seizure, tripped over the curb, and
  • 14
ended up in the street in front of our house. My neighbor told me he came outside because he
  • 15
heard my dog barking incessantly. He said my dog was laying on top of my husband,

guarding him in the street, barking for help. He didn't leave him as my neighbor approached
  • 18
and laid by him as my neighbor checked my husband. I am overcome
  • 19
with gratitude by how amazing my dog was in this situation. I love him so much. He has been an
  • 20
absolute gift to our family. I write this because I see a lot of people in this group purchasing
  • 21
dogs. I write this so maybe more can consider adopting, especially from a kl shelter, not to
  • 22
support their practices (because I surely do not), but to save a life. A rescue may be a little more work at
  • 23
first and they may always have their quirks (my boy may always be a bit fearful of the dark and
  • 24
men), but I will swar up and down rescues build a type of bond with you that feels other worldly.
