'[They] repeatedly tried to break into my apartment': Bonded black cat duo decides on their human, stages multiple break-in attempts, and eventually wins, getting adopted into their purrfect furrever home

Everyone knows cats are cunning and mischievous, but we did not know they could commit B&Es.

Although we should have. It's just that cats don't normally need to do that. At least not our cats. Our cats are already at home. They don't need to break in. They find their fun in locking us out of places rather than locking themselves in. Cats lock us out of our bathrooms, and then have conferences in there or something. Cats lock us out on our balconies, without any way of getting back in, and probably laugh at us. Our cats commit crimes. Always. But generally… they work along. 

Not this bonded pair of black cats though. These two come as a pair and commit their crimes as a pair. And yes, it is hilarious. Unfortunately for them, their B&Es did not go quite too well this time. They were probably too exhausted from having to live outside and survive for so long. But things worked out anyway. The person whose house they were trying to break into felt bad and let them in anyway, adopting them and giving them as many chances as they will ever need to commit as many crimes as they want from the safety of a warm home.

    I have a LONG history with the CDS. My first stray was an elderly tuxedo cat affectionately named Prettygirl by the neighbors.

    She has since passed away and I was heartbroken. Then soon after, an inseparable pair of black cats repeatedly showed up on my porch and tried to break in. I felt bad and let them in. They never left and they have to cuddle every night to go to sleep.

  • We have read a whole lot of stories about cats walking into people's homes and adopting them, and we have read stories about people adopting bonded pairs of cats, but we don't think that we have ever encountered a story quite like this one. The fact that these two have been living their lives togther, surviving together, scheming together, and the two of them - at the same time - chose to be adopted by you… that is amazing. That is a sign, really, if we have ever seen one. All of you are meant to be together, and your time together is going to be the best you've ever had.

    Dull_Bell4552 OP the male (Rocky) absolutely had some... interesting behaviors. He used to hunt and kill birds all the time, climb on people's cars in the parking lot, and the neighbors would complain that he'd break into their porch as well and attempt to watch their TV or stare into their house. The female (Spooky) follows him around and watches.

    Dull_Bell4552 OP The male (Rocky) has a pretty severe mosquito allergy. Every time he is outside they just relentlessly eat his face, specifically his nose. He has to take medication and stuff to make the inflammation go down.

    Dull_Bell4552 OP Fr! They are the first real bonded pair I have ever seen. I have two house cats and while they are friends, they are independent and NEVER cuddled lol they do their own thing.

  • People are not kidding when they define some cats as bonded pairs. They really are bonded. They really do see each other as inseparable parts of each other's lives. When shelters point at a pair of cats and say that these two should not be separated from one another, that is something that should be respected. Forever homes are important, but breaking up bonded pairs so that one could go into a home while the other one stays, is not an option. And it is certainly not a kindness for the cats. Take both or leave both.
