Employee get poached by other company, then fired after one month: 'I was told it was not the right fit with no further explanation'

Imagine being convinced to switch jobs, only for the next employer to be way worse than your previous one.

We feel for this employee, who was poached by another company… only to be fired just one month into the new job. Think about all the logistics that went into this transition. This dude wasn't even necessarily looking for work but knew he was underpaid and overworked. When he was contacted by another recruiter promising a better employment situation, he took the time to hear them out. He considered all that was being offered on the table and believed that these people would provide a better work environment for him and his career.

Well, let's just say that these new guys were all talk and no show. Once the author was officially hired in his new role, it seems like he was thrown to the lions and was immediately expected to deliver impressive results despite only being an employee there for about a minute. Ironically, the job itself was in hiring and recruiting.

After having trouble filling a position right before the holidays, the employee explained the situation to his client. The client expressed that they were happy with his work and with the roles he was able to fill in that time. However, his new managers held these difficulties against him and, right after the start of the new year, he was abruptly let go.

Here's the funny thing about hiring. You need to be confident in someone's long-term potential and cannot expect the results of a seasoned professional during their first busy month on the job. To make matters worse, this guy was trying to fill positions during the holiday season… when absolutely no one wants to work.
The author is right to be upset and to feel like he was set up to fail. It's highly unlikely that he'll be able to return to his last position now, but we're confident that he can treat this unfortunate chapter of his professional career as an outlier.
