Phew. I thought I was adopting a shy, quiet kitty who just needed to gain some weight.

$15,000 in emergency surgery and three months later, Honey is thriving. Her adoption and the immediate emergency surgery plus medication and wound management afterward were incredibly traumatic for this poor, nervous girl. She hated me for a while - couldn't come near her without being bitten. Everyone in my life told me to return her to the shelter. I'm stubborn and a bleeding heart and I just couldn't do it.

A new Honey has emerged, three months. later. She runs around like a crazy cat, plays with her toys, rubs on my legs and loves forehead kisses. She eats like a grown man, poops more than any cat I've ever known, and steals the bacon out of my breakfast sandwich almost every day

despite my best efforts. She won't look twice at a cat treat, but goes insane for cheddar and sour cream potato chips and Dubai chocolate cookies from Crumbl (no, I don't feed her either; this was discovered when I left her alone in a room with my food, lol).

This cat has taught me so much about resilience and perseverance. She has truly changed my life. Despite all odds, despite all the trauma, she chooses every day to be brave and to keep going. I adopted her at a time when I was completely broken and ready to give up. It might be cheesy, but if Honey can keep going, I know I can too. I LOVE this little girl. My sweet Honey

myironlions You are a hero. Clearly you and Honey are two halves of a whole and deserve each other in all the best ways. Thank you for being her savior, not just when you first saw her, not even just when you rushed her to the vet, not even just when you

persevered despite her understandably negative reactions, but all the way through to when your patience and love paid off and you are able to see and appreciate the lovely spunky clever happy personality she has when she isn't struggling under massive stress. Every being should experience such beauty.

Malsperanza Going the extra mile, damn. If you want to give her treats, try baby food chicken or beef or ham (Gerber, but hard to find). Those are my most successful treats with cats. that disdain normal cat treats. Very healthy.

Eldubya99 You know what's sweet? She's holding her tail in the same way in picture 1 and 2. Even though she was hurting then, perhaps she knew that she was safe. Beautiful transformation!

Unlikely_Comedian_75 spent $8,000 on my rescue dog in vet bills only to lose him 10 months later. If I had the chance I'd do it all again. No regrets I only wish more money could have saved him.

phasexero Well done you two, stay strong and enjoy every good moment.

Anothermindlessanon She was so lucky to have been adopted by someone who loved her unconditionally and had this kind of patience and...money. These kinds of stories remind me, that there is so much love and happiness in this world, despite all the bad things we hear about every day.

Speaking as someone who just invested all the money I had saved for years plus sold all my jewelry (it wasn't much...but gold sells quick) and put myself in debt to pay for a life-saving treatment for my dog. I was lucky it wasn't that much because nobody would have bought my kidney fast enough, and they didn't accept payment plans :D I wish you both all the best!

flatulentbabushka Awww omg this brought tears to my eyes. She's so lucky to have you and to be alive! She definitely wouldn't be without you. I wish you and honey all the best in this world XOXO

SiegelOverBay I almost surrendered a cat due to not being able to afford the surgery to fix his urinary blockage. My mom came through when my pride failed in the 11th hour and I finally asked for financial help to cover the gap that Care Credit left. It warms my heart so much to know that there might have

been an angel like you on the other end of his possible surrender. I was able to love my little man for another 7 years after his successful surgery and I hope you and Honey get at least as many years together and, preferably, more!

DizdozVStheworld She looks so much healthier and happier! From animal lovers everywhere, thank you. She's so lucky to have you

nonniewobbles Poor sweetheart. I'm so glad the two of you found one another and that you were able to help her out and she's recovered so well!

Honestly, the shelter not knowing how sick she was probably saved her life. I've adopted a few cats that turned out to be absolute expensive disasters far beyond what we knew from the shelter. So I can definitely relate to the fact that people don't understand pouring resources and time and your heart into this animal you've just met.

So... I'm glad she found the right person. I'm glad you found the right cat. I hope you both have many good years together.
