33-year-old woman quits job to become "tradwife" without informing her husband first, now he's threatening divorce: 'I don't think it makes sense for our current family situation'

Quitting work to become a stay-at-home parent might make sense for some married couples, but both parties need to agree to that kind of sudden change.

Like many people online, over the past few years, this 33-year-old lady became fascinated with "tradwife" content on the internet. The idea of leaving the workforce and leaning into traditional societal expectations was appealing to her. However, the problem here was that this concept was so overtly unappealing to her husband.

This man may have been making enough money to support his wife's unemployment, but this wasn't part of their arrangement when they got married. Of course, things change over the course of a relationship, especially after starting a family. Still, it takes two to agree to something, and this guy did not see the value in his partner retreating to a traditional role of housewife.

Now, as with all relationships, compromise is of the utmost importance. The husband and wife had spoken about her desire to quit work and become a tradwife, and perhaps he was too closed off and too unwilling to find a solution that would make both of them happy. However, that inability to negotiate on the husband's part most certainly did not justify what his wife did next. Not only did this woman fully ignore her husband and quit her job to become a stay-at-home mother, but she didn't even tell him properly! He found out on his own by sifting through all the farewell gifts she received from coworkers at their home. When he confronted her about it, she said that he would get over it and be thankful in the end.
Well, that's what set him off and caused him to leave their home abruptly. While we hope they work something out soon for the sake of their kids, we do not believe this man should return to his wife until she acknowledges the gravity of this betrayal. Making your partner the sole breadwinner without warning is a massive responsibility that deserves discussion and mutual agreement beforehand. If she cannot see that what she did was wrong, then she is a selfish partner and is not doing this for the benefit of the family at large. She is doing this for herself!
