Woman discovers husband of 13 years has 16-year-old daughter, has surprising reaction: 'We've been talking every day'

This family is welcoming a new daughter – and at 16 years old, she's just now discovering her parents and siblings. 

The great thing about families is that they can always grow, and you never run out of love to give to new members. Usually, this happens when a kid gets married, or when a new grandbaby is born. It can really bring people together! Suddenly, you and your cousins who you haven't seen in years are watching your 8-month-old nephew crawling around on the carpet, egging him on as he crawls between Grandma and Grandpa. You discover new things about each other and start to create whole new memories together. And before long, you wonder how your family ever existed without them. 

There is the odd occurance, though, that family bonds form in unexpected ways. That's exactly what happened when this family, formed of 2 parents and 3 sons, suddenly discovered that Dad actually had a 16-year-old daughter! Born to the woman he'd dated before his current spouse, this kid has gone her entire life without meeting her Dad — until now. 

In a rather wholesome post, this parent shared the joy that's sprung from this new encounter. But commenters were a bit worried about the tone of the post. This parent seems overjoyed, and it's making commenters wonder if she fully grasps the reality of the situation. 

A lot of parents care deeply about their child's gender, so if you have 3 sons and suddenly have a daughter, that may be reason to celebrate! But as one commenter advised, this kid isn't a "doll," she's a real person. She may love being fawned over now, but I agree that this family should be cautious with the way they welcome their new daughter in. They don't know anything about her – she's virtually a stranger — and they'll have to be cautious not to rush into this new relationship. I think this parent has all the best intentions here. Though commenters called her out for her adoring compliments towards her daughter, I think she's just excited. Let's hope there's an update soon about this new family — who knows what family life will look like once the daughter is fully integrated into their lives!
