'I wish coworkers would fight in the bathrooms like middle school': The best relatable work memes this week

You don't get anywhere in the workplace without taking a few risks.

This seems to be the prevailing sentiment among rich CEOS and LinkedIn gurus who have a vested interest in making sure that we are addicted to the grind. The adrenaline rush of finally asking for that raise or proposing a move that you know will be controversial certainly breaks up the monotony of day-to-day duties, but when there is a chance that you are going to fail and look foolish doing it, it can be difficult to muster up the enthusiasm for such frivolities.

At the same time, far too many workplaces operate on the principle of if you don't ask, you don't get. Countless people have worked hard, done their job perfectly, and never complained, only to be ignored for all this effort and pave the way for their manager to get a promotion instead. Yes, the system is often rigged, but knowing when to speak up is a part of it. Things do not change unless somebody comes along and makes the change.

This skill is something that many of us find intimidating, and the irony is that we can be more inclined to have this mindset when we stop caring so much about retaining our employment. We need to balance any hard work that we do with a devil-may-care attitude, allowing us the freedom to say what we really think (well, so long as it makes us look good, that is). While they may not be aspirational, the complaints of work memes can help us in this regard. It kind of isn't that serious.
