Everyone loves a sweet treat. Don't you resent those people who claim they don't like sweet things? Come on, man! It's not even evolutionarily possible! There's hardwiring in our brains that make us like sweets. It's partly a survival mechanism since we were hunters and gatherers originally. Sweets represented safe, calorie-dense foods to provide energy. It also provided quick energy when we needed immediate furl for our bodies. There are other biological responses happening when we eat sweets. It actually helps the brain release dopamine, which is the neurotransmitter responsible for the "feel good" response, pleasure, and motivation. It acts as a reward, which makes the brain want to repeat the experience. The brain's reward system can become used to high sugar levels, requiring more to get the same feeling. 

There's also a feeling of comfort and nostalgia around sugary foods. Childhood memories come to life with one bite of a chocolate chip cookie. It makes us feel safe, seen, and secure. It also works as stress relief, since sugar can temporarily boost serotonin levels, improving mood. There's nothing like a sweet treat to make your day just a little extra better. Cat memes are a different version of a sweet treat. You don't have to worry about counting calories or putting weight on you when you're scrolling cat memes. They're healthy and calorie-free! When you're home from a long day at work, when you just had a fight with your girlfriend or boyfriend, when you can't afford eggs and milk anymore, or when you're feeling blue thinking about all the impending world problems that are sure to spiral sooner rather than later, it's best to simply distract yourself with dopamine hits of cat memes, as well as sweet treats.

  • What's your favorite sweet treat? It's hard to pick just one. I really love chocolate chip cookies. They're so simple and wholesome, and never get old. I also love a Twix bar! That crunchy cookie mixed with the chewy caramel has me craving them every day! I'm not a big cake person, but I do love a banana cake with cream cheese frosting. I like chocolate and vanilla cakes less, something about them tastes artificial.
