These activate muscles throughout the body which start moving automatically, like the tail. It's not random either; the type of wag matters! A loose, wide wag often signals happiness and friendliness, while a stiff or slow wag can mean something very different.

Dogs wag their tails directionally, as well. Studies have found that when dogs feel positive emotions, their tails tend to wag more to the right side of their body. This is linked to activity in the left hemisphere of the brain, which processes positive feelings and social behaviors. Other dogs can even pick up on these subtle cues, reading emotional information from another dog's tail movement.

When it's the weekend, it can be so tempting to just stay indoors, especially if you have a pet. Having a pet like a dog may motivate people to take the dog outside for playtime, dog parks, hiking, or running around a grassy area. But when the weather's cold, it's so much more enticing to simply stay inside, snuggle with your dog, and scroll wholesome and hilarious dog memes together in the comfort and warmth of your home.
