Neighbors band together against entitled resident who keeps testing his car alarm at 6:00 AM every morning: 'It's waking up the entire neighborhood!'

Most people wake up from alarms on their phones, but in this neighborhood, everyone woke up far too early from one person's car alarm.

This grumpy curmudgeon felt that he was entitled to test his car alarm at 6:00 AM each and every morning just because it made more sense for his daily routine before work. For the record, this wasn't a subtle alarm. This was a cacophonous series of noises that lasted a full two to three minutes. In a quiet suburban neighborhood where people usually did not leave their homes for work until 7:30 AM at the earliest, the audacity of this man was beyond insane. He needed to be stopped!

Thankfully, the author wasn't the only person in the neighborhood who felt this way. Several other residents had grown sick and tired of this man's so-called "need" to test his car alarm every single day. His rationale? He believed that the only reason why his car was still functioning properly was because of this daily test. No matter how much other folks tried to debunk this theory, he refused to budge on the issue.

Now, according to the rules and regulations outlined by the local homeowner's association, it would be difficult to easily determine that the car alarm was a legitimate noise violation since its purpose was for safety and security. Still, there was a point made in the HOA handbook about "excessive testing" that has since become the basis of the case against this guy. If I were him, I would consider compromising and agreeing to test the alarm later in the day… before a hefty fine comes his way in the mail.

The last thing you want is to make enemies with the people living on either side of you. In the same way that you could annoy the heck out of them, they could very well find your Achilles' heel and annoy the heck out of you in return. 

    So in the spirit of being neighborly, let's all learn from this grumpy individual and try to make sure that our daily routines don't include activities that could dsrupt the lives of those around us too much.

  • U... Isn't there a local noise ordinance with the police? If you all got together and filed a non-emergency police report I'm sure that it would stop. The HOA should be fining him every day that he does it as well.
