Neighbors band together against entitled resident who keeps testing his car alarm at 6:00 AM every morning: 'It's waking up the entire neighborhood!'

  • "Neighbor keeps 'testing' his car alarm at 6am and says its for security"

Every morning at 6am my neighbor tests his car alarm. Not just a quick beep - the full alarm cycle that goes on for 2-3 minutes. Honking, siren sounds, the whole thing.
  • Hes been doing this for a month straight. Every. Single. Morning. I finally went over and asked him what hes doing. He said hes testing his car alarm to make sure its working properly for security purposes.
  • I said okay but why does it need to be tested every single day at 6am. He said thats when he wakes up and its part of his
  • morning routine. I said its waking up the entire neighborhood and asked if he could test it later or less frequently.
  • He said if he tests it later he might forget and then his car wont be secure. I asked how often car alarms actually fail that he needs to test it daily. He said better safe than sorry.
  • I pointed out that in a month of testing it's worked every single time so clearly its functioning fine. He said thats BECAUSE hes testing it regularly. The logic makes no sense.
  • Other neighbors have complained too. Someone left a note on his windshield asking him to stop. He responded by testing the alarm twice the next morning.
  • I contacted our HOA and they said car alarms are allowed for security but "excessive testing" is subjective and hard to enforce.
  • The neighbor says if we dont like it we should appreciate that hes keeping the neighborhood safe from theft. Safe from theft but not from sleep deprivation apparently.
  • A man gives a two thumbs down gesture while looking displeased.
  • IncidentPuzzled... Sounds like you could break into his car at 6am and no one would know the difference
  • Ok_Somewhere_... Call the police every morning and tell them someone's breaking into a car.
  • U... Isn't there a local noise ordinance with the police? If you all got together and filed a non-emergency police report I'm sure that it would stop. The HOA should be fining him every day that he does it as well.
  • Nunov_DAbov If I heard a car alarm at 6 am, I'd call the police. thinking that someone was breaking into a neighbor's car. If the police investigated
  • and found someone was "testing" their alarm, they'd probably tell them to stop it or risk a summons for making unnecessary noise.
  • SeatSix Test his doorbell at 2am everyday
  • Tantricationz Get a giant LED flood light.. point it directly at his house and at 1:30 in the morning cycle it off and on rapidly for 2 to 3 minutes. When he says something to you, tell him it's something you have to test every night for security purposes
