  • AITAH? Neighbor using tree lawn to back in.

Hey yall! Recently I've had to fix my mailbox twice - once it was hanging in by a thread and the second time it was leaning pretty bad.
  • My neighbor got a new truck which I'm assuming is what is hitting my mailbox - I haven't accused him of it because I'm not sure.
  • However today I noticed that he uses my tree lawn, side walk, and grass to back into his driveway.
  • Since we've had snow and ice it's beginning to become a muddied up mess. I watched him three different times today back in using my yard.
  • He literally pulls into my yard to then back in instead of going past his driveway to back in like you typically would to back into a driveway.
  • Me being me, I know I reactive I am so I had my boyfriend simply ask him to not use my yard.
  • His response was "it's just hard to back in that's why I do it." AITA for thinking he shouldn't use my yard???
  • Mind you I keep up with my yard in the summer and it's very well taken care of.
  • also a tree lawn is the strip of grass between the side and street. It goes grass - side walk - tree lawn-street.

  • He's using the treelawn, sidewalk, and some of my grass to back in. Hope this helps
  • Suspicious_Fig_3796 NTA, time to deploy a tactical boulder or two
  • sadgh-st Original Poster's Reply For sure what I will do if it continues!!! I now understand my moms frustrations when it happened to her yard when I first learned to drive
  • lammine4420 What's a tree lawn? Time to put a boulder or other deterrents in what I'm guessing is the strip of grass betwixt the sidewalk and curb? NTA, your neighbor is.
  • sadgh-st Original Poster's Reply That's exactly what the tree lawn is!
  • DolQual123 INFO: What is a tree lawn?
  • sadgh-st Original Poster's Reply Tree lawn is a strip of grass between the side walk and street. so you have your grass - the side walk - a strip of grass - street. Hope this helps lol
  • No-Loquat-2763 Go talk to him. WTF?
  • sadgh-st Original Poster's Reply We did!! He said it's hard for him to back in so that's why he uses my yard?!?!??? I'm just so confused. If you can't back into your driveway without someone's yard maybe you shouldn't be backing into your driveway in the first place?????
  • tbrick62 Had to look up tree lawn. Before you escalate, make sure you own it. Where I am those strips of lawn between sidewalk and street are technically owned by the town I live in.
  • thechadfox The strip is city property but maintained by the homeowner
  • sadgh-st Original Poster's Reply he also uses my actual grass which is why I posted in here because it rabbit technically owned by me but my actually grass is being used too I'm just hoping we have it all sorted out.
  • auntysos NTA But you need help if you are "reactive" you're not a teenager going through puberty. Time to learn some adulting skills.
  • sadgh-st Original Poster's Reply Because reactive when you're upset is truly valid as to why I didn't go over there because I know my limits. If I would have waited, I could go over and talk with him however if he would have told me some stupid stuff like he told my boyfriend my response would have been "if you can't back into your driveway then doing fing do it?" Or something along those lines. I would have reacted - that's why I used reactive because I can't stand when people lack common sense
  • Reasonable-Bad-769 NTA. Tell him to wreck his own lawn. Take pics / video of him doing this and ask for his insurance. When he asks why, advise him its to send them videos and a bill for a new mailbox and landscaping repairs in the spring. Bet he never uses your lawn again.
