40-year-old horse goes blind and is about to be put down, until his goat best friend intervenes and becomes his seeing-eye guide for the next 16 years: 'There is no Charlie without Jack'

Jack is a real G.O.A.T. - he saved his best friend, Charlie the horse, from being put down by taking care of him after he went blind, even saving him from a tornado. He also happens to be an actual goat.

It's time to retire the notion of animals being just muscle, bones, and no brains. We've seen time and time again on Animal Comedy how animals can form heartwarming relationships, friendships, and families without any logical reason other than the fact that they truly care for one another. Like when a giant doberman adopted a tiny kitten - they have quite literally nothing in common, and yet, the doberman took on a pawrental role, getting nothing in return, and actually raised the kitten to be a real member of their family. But today, we're to talk about the G.O.A.T. of goats, Jack, who took care of his blind best friend (Charlie, a 40-year-old horse) for 16 years.

At 40, Charlie was already an old horse. His owners were considering putting him down, and then he started going blind in one eye which confirmed that his quality of life was about to reach its limit. However, something they never expected happened: Jack became his seeing-eye goat guide, leading him to graze and caring for him every day for the next 16 years. During a tornado in their area, Charlie got trapped between a grove of fallen trees, and Jack raced to his owners to get them to come help him save Charlie, because he couldn't lead him out of the area himself.

We often think of animals working together because they both get something from it, like a symbiotic relationship. But Jack gets nothing from this relationship, other than spending more time with his friend. Charlie cannot find food for him, protect him, or groom him, and yet he remained steadily by his side.

Jack and Charlie's relationship teaches us that animals truly can form bonds without a logical transaction of favors. Goats can have friends just like humans can, and it just goes to show that most animals are much deeper than we give them credit for. It warms our animal-loving hearts to see these two, side by side, just living life, enjoying each other's company. Maybe, if we just stopped and listened, we could learn a thing or two from our animal friends. We are animals, too, after all.
