Another colleague was hired around the same time as the employee's temporary promotion. Little did the author know, this new hire was told that if he excelled in his role throughout the subsequent six months, he would get the employee's title… permanently.
Both coworkers barely spoke to one another in the office, which seems to be why this never came up. Of course, the employee deserved transparency from upper management. If he had known that other coworkers were also competing for the same title, perhaps that would have changed things for him.
Still, the author worked his behind off during that time and gave everything he had to that job, exceeding expectations and targets. However, at the end of the day, it sounded like upper management was only truly serious about one of those promises, and it wasn't the one the author was given.
