Employee leaves corporate job to accept dream startup role, wants to leave after 3 months: 'I feel like I'm wasting time'

Plenty of jobs do not turn out to be everything that an employee thought they would be.

The job interview process is always a two-way street: the candidate is not only trying to convince a company that they are the right fit for the job, but the company is also trying to sell itself as the best possible place to work. The likelihood is that both sides are going to be giving an impression of themselves that is brighter and shinier than reality, and expectations have to be adjusted accordingly. 

That being said, there is nothing wrong with starting a job and quickly realizing it is not for you. Every time you choose to make a change in your career, that comes with a certain level of risk; if that risk does not seem to pay off, there is no shame in starting again. The only issue is that this can sometimes turn out to be easier said than done, especially if you are already invested in the role in other ways. When you have a commitment to a job and maybe even the hope that it will get better, it is far too easy to stay there longer than is helpful for you.
