Employee walks out of job of 9 years after they eliminated their position and reassigned them with no training: 'They gave me only busy work and never trained me'

It's not easy to leave a job, let alone one you've had for almost a decade.

Leaving a job is like moving. There is a lot more rigamarole involved than anyone would like. It's a great sense of uprooting. You've probably gotten used to a certain routine, a certain commute, and certain tasks to do in the day. You most likely have built your life around it. It might be where you spend most of your time, and how you make your money. Changing that all around is a difficult thing. So most of us probably only try to do it when we're in need of a change. We want things to be different. However, it is now, it isn't working, and you need something else. You wouldn't voluntarily go through all that change unless you really needed it.

On the company's side, it's also a pain in the neck to have to replace people. It's always easier to promote people internally than it is to hire somebody new. Plus, it's cheaper. So it behooves companies to incentivize loyalty and reward the folks who are already there doing good work. You have to make them feel valued and appreciated. But bosses don't always know how to do this. Sometimes they let their workers fall through the cracks until they're left with no choice but to go elsewhere. It's unfortunately a too-common situation, where bosses overlook the people who are right in front of them in favor of something theoretical.

That's what happened in this story, where an employee, who had worked there for almost a decade, was forced out of their job by circumstances out of their control. They wanted to be able to stay, but they couldn't stand the way they were being treated. First, they were forced out of their original position, and when they tried to adapt to the new one, they were given no support. We all need support when starting something new, especially at work.
