28-year-old nice guy refuses to walk elderly neighbor's dog after she starts "paying" him in baked goods, insisting they're worth more than money because she uses organic ingredients: 'She said I was being ungrateful'

As much as we love chocolate chip cookies, in no world or universe do they count as payment. Unless we're the Cookie Monster.

We've been dog lovers our whole lives. We grew up with multiple dogs in our house, and as adults, we've adopted a few dogs of our own. Since they've been such a crucial part of our development, we see all the things that people think are "annoying" about dogs as less than trivial. You know, like constantly having to take your dog on walks, especially before bed, or even waking up early in the morning to take them out. It's so ingrained in our lives that we don't even think twice about it.

Especially taking our dogs for walks. We love that bonding time with our doggos. And it's not limited to our dogs, we moonlighted as a dog walker in our 20s to make extra cash in our free time. We got to meet cute dogs and we got paid for it, it was a win-win scenario for us. But even as much as we loved taking for their daily strolls, we still treated it like it was a job. If the customer couldn't pay, we wouldn't take their dog out, simple as that.

So when this nice guy refused to stop walking his 60-year-old neighbor's dog after she stopped paying him $20 for every walk and started "paying" him in baked goods, we get it. And hey, we love baked goods as much as the next guy, but an oatmeal raisin cookie won't pay the bills. She doubled down, insisting that her treats were worth more than money because she used only organic ingredients, but what good is an organic carrot cake if we have no apartment to eat it in?

  • And we have to put our own two cents in here… $20 for a walk is cheap. Our dog walker charges us $20 for half an hour, and then $35 for a full hour. We work from the office four days a week, so that's $140 a week, meaning they make (just from our doggo) $560 a month. We're also pretty sure they walk around five to six puppers during this time, so all in all, they're making bank.

  • The moral of the story is to pay your dog walkers, kids. They take care of your precious pupper for around an hour multiple times per week, and you would want someone to treat them with the utmost care and love. Just like you want to treat your babysitter well, you should do the same to your basically babysitter for your fur babies. It's not so different.

    mortlikesbooks I had the same thing happen to me! Only I was maybe 11 and got paid $1 to walk the dog. Serious bargain for her and I was thrilled to have a bit of pocket change for candy. I think after 10 ish walks I brought her dog back and was waiting for my dollar and she told me I didn't need to get paid every time lol. I kept going back until I was getting a dollar every other walk and finally had enough

He walks our lab 3 times a week, and i hand him a $20 each time. As in immediately, when he brings my dog home.
