As this person explained, they work at a senior living facility, so it's understandable why they'd be expected to work in any weather. Many senior citizens need to be fed apple sauce cups and helped up off the couch and guided through their daily routines. As you probably know, a lot of seniors end up in a pretty helpless state as they age, becoming almost child-like in their dependence, and they can't just be left alone for days on end.
The workers at these places are heroes for doing the work that many of us would rather avoid. And this person unfortunately got fired for what sounds like a preventable scenario…

So, this is the boss's incompetence at play here. As a kitchen worker, this person should've been treated like a VIP! They should've been offered a bed to stay overnight, with advance warning that it would be an overnight shift, so they could get their affairs in order. In an ideal, beautiful world, they would've also received time-and-a-half pay, but we both know the world doesn't work like that.
Other people also thought that this person dodged a bad workplace culture here, and will find something else soon enough.
