  • [I kicked] out my grandmas nurse after i CAUGHT her wearing my grandpa's wedding ring and acting like she owned the house

I (24f) really need to know if im the bad guy here, because my family is calling up my phone right now.
  • My grandma (82f) has mild dementia. to keep her comfortable at home, my parents hired a livein nurse (30f). At first, the nurse seemed like an angel. But a few months in, i started
  • noticing something fishy. She started wearing my grandmas old vintage sweaters and dresses. When i confronted her, she just smiled and said grandma insisted she
  • take them. Grandma could not remember giving them away. Then, the nurse started acting like the gatekeeper.
  • Nurse bringing tea to an elderly patient.
  • If i dropped by, she would whisper at the door that grandma was having a bad day and could not see me. But i could hear her laughing at the tv inside.
  • She even started moving our family photos to the back rooms and putting up framed selfies of just her and my grandma in the living room.
  • The final straw was last friday. I used my spare key to come in unannounced. I heard noises in my grandmas bedroom. I walked in and found the nurse sitting at the vanity
  • mirror. She was doing her makeup, and on her hand was my grandmas diamond wedding ring. the one my grandpa gave her 60 years ago.
  • Woman trying on an engagement ring.
  • I lost it. I asked her what the heck she was doing. She jumped, tried to hide her hand, and stuttered that she was just polishing it. You dont polish a ring by parading around with it on ur ring finger.
  • I told her to pack her stuff and get out immediately. I literally stood there and watched her leave.
  • Now my parents and aunts are so mad at me. They say i completely overreacted over a misunderstanding and that u cant find good care these days. They think
  • i fired her out of jealousy and ruined grandmas routine. But i know what i saw, and it felt like she was trying to single handedly take over my grandmas life.
  • TL;DR: My grandmas live in nurse started slowly taking over her house, hiding family photos, and wearing her clothes. I fired her on the spot after catching her
  • wearing my grandmas wedding ring, but now my family says i overreacted.

  • Individual-Ice9139 NTA. If someone's slipping into your grandma's life like that, wearing her clothes and her late husband's ring? That's not "caring," that's red flag city. You did the right thing protecting her
  • NoStore146 OP Thanks, i really needed to hear that. My parents keep making me feel like im the crazy one but u are right, it felt so predatory. i just want my grandma to be safe.
  • Puggle Pack83 I can almost guarantee she stole stuff. Whenever you have in home care people.... hide your valuables. Seen so many people get looted as a social worker.
  • NoStore146 OP You're so right. thats exactly what im scared of now. if she was bold enough to wear the ring while sitting at the mirror,
  • i can only imagine what else is already gone. im honestly going through the jewelry box right now to check. its crazy how my family does not see it, but thank u for the heads up since u have seen this happen before.
