'Am I being adopted': After days of mysterious meows, a distinguished cat appears at an Italian apartment door, ready to choose his new hooman

The Cat Distribution System doesn't always send a tracking number.

For a few days, there had been the occasional mysterious meow drifting in from outside the apartment. This rescuer assumed it belonged to a neighbor's cat, except after asking around, it turned out no one in the building had one. The soundtrack of surprise meows continued anyway.

Then came the moment. While doing the dishes, another meow rang out, followed by a small sound against the door. Not imagination this time. Just enough to pause, dry hands, and open it. And there he was.

A very distinguished gentleman of a cat, standing there like he had arrived exactly where he meant to be. No tag. No obvious owner. Surprisingly clean and healthy for someone appearing unannounced. He didn't look lost. If anything, he looked confident, like he had selected this apartment specifically.

Naturally, the only question left hanging in the air is whether the adoption paperwork is already in progress. Sometimes the Cat Distribution System doesn't send advance notice. Sometimes it simply delivers a well-groomed gentleman to the doorstep and lets things unfold from there. Whether he's a wandering visitor or a future permanent resident remains to be seen, but he certainly made an entrance.

Italy really does deliver designer kitties. This one showed up looking polished, put together, and ready for a permanent address. There’s something very luxurious about a cat that appears at your door like they’ve just stepped off a runway.

Nobody really knows how the Cat Distribution System works. There’s no form to fill out, no tracking number, no warning. One day you’re minding your business, and the next there’s a cat at your door like it’s completely normal. However it operates, it clearly has global reach. From one country to the next, it keeps delivering exactly when it’s needed. All anyone can do is be grateful it’s a worldwide organization.

She clearly decided this place was up to her standards. After a few thoughtful meows and what was probably a thorough inspection of the doorway, the decision was made. Not every apartment earns that kind of approval, but this one must have checked all the boxes. It really does feel like she scoped it out and thought, yes, this will do just fine.
