'I like cats, but I'm a dog person': A self-proclaimed dog person is officially converted to a cat lover after a stray shows up on his balcony and refuses to leave

He came for food and stayed to change someone's life.

This cat showed up on the balcony one evening like he'd always known where to go. Big, handsome, and way too put together to look like a stray. He got a bowl of food just in case he was a lost neighbor's cat. The next day, he was back, waiting after work like this was already part of his routine.

The hooman who opened that door had always said they were a dog person. Cats were fine, sure, but not really their thing. This guy clearly had other plans. He got the name Dunk, partly inspired by shoes and partly because he loves rubbing against feet. Since then, he's been chipped, neutered, and fully upgraded to indoor life. He's claimed a cat tower, figured out toys, and even learned to get along with the dog. Not bad for a former balcony regular.

What started as "I'll just feed him once" turned into a full conversion story. Dunk isn't just a cat who found a home. He picked his person at the right time and stuck around until the message landed. Turns out the system works exactly like that.

Cats don’t really ask for permission. They pick their place, test it out, and if it feels right, they stay. It’s never random. They scope it out, come back the next day, and suddenly it’s decided. The food helps, sure, but it’s more than that. When a cat chooses your home, it's intentional. They looked around and thought, yeah, this will do.

It’s the best when the cat and the dog already get along. No drama, no standoffs, just two very different personalities figuring it out and sharing the same space. You can already picture them hanging out in the same room like it’s totally normal. That’s when you know it’s meant to be.
