  • The below-freezing temperatures this winter have been no joke. Even though we all take proper precautions to stay warm and dry through the turbulent weather, there are some folks out there who simply want to make your life more difficult. Why? There's no way to really tell, but we can easily chalk it up to their own misery, feelings of inadequacy, and yearning for some trouble.

    When you live next to a person like this, in short: Good luck. They don't care who you are, if you bring a cherry pie to them every Sunday morning, or ignore them like the plague. They're set on making life difficult for you because their life is difficult for them.

    This next story shows exactly what happens when you live next to a problematic neighbor who will do anything in their power to make you feel uncomfortable. This time, a neighbor pours water all over the shared driveway, which will turn into ice in the brutal winter weather.   • She reported my business to the city and really pushed to get it shut down. She would take pictures of cars that stopped for a second in front of my side of the driveway just to drop someone off, then act like they were fully parked there and blocking her.

  • They told me the police and the city wouldn't be responding to her complaints anymore. After four "dog at large" cases for my dogs being "loose" in my own yard got dismissed, I'm pretty sure animal control is also over her nonsense.

  • So now her new stunt: I caught her early one morning, in 20 degree weather, dumping two buckets of water on the shared part of the driveway.

  • As we mentioned before, it's clear that this neighbor is looking for problems. Though there are always two sides to the story, it's important to remember that nothing warrants this dangerous behavior. Pettiness can get you far, friends, but when someone is trying to create a dangerous environment for you, it's time to swipe the chip off your shoulder and alert the authorities. Only when they are truly reprimanded will the neighbor stop it with their hijinks.

    In this situation, what is the correct course of action? Sure, we know what we'd like to do in this resident's place, but what's the smart thing to do?
