32 Baffling Design Choices Found in the Wild

These designs don't make sense. But life often doesn't. And part of the work we have to do on earth is to make sense of things that don't make sense. Because if we went around throwing up our hands at everything absurd, where would we be?

For example, right now I'm eating a pumpernickel bagel with scallion cream cheese. Why? Because I like it. If I stopped to interrogate the reasons why I like it, and the reasons why I chose it, everything might fall apart. Because we don't always do things that make sense. Sometimes we just do things because that's the random way of the universe. There is no rhyme or reason; there is just random chance and a little bit of absurdity. It is important to make peace with that, or else you'll never be truly happy. If you're constantly searching for meaning, you might find it. You might find it in strange places. But sometimes you won't find it, and you have to be OK with that. Life is not something that exists purely to make meaning out of. None of us knows exactly why we were put on this earth, except for the fact that we're all trying to figure it out. Sometimes you have to get existential in the meme list, or else when will you? It's important to zoom out and ask ourselves why we like the things that we like. What spurs us to keep scrolling? What brings us back?

For the design fails, the answer seems pretty clear. We like things that go wrong. We love the schadenfreude of watching someone else's mistake. We know we are safe from that particular mountain to climb, so momentarily we feel free. We feel free from expectations, and we are therefore put out into the world to laugh. We are let go to flail around in the world of the absurd. We don't have to carry the burdens and the pressures of real life; we can sail into the unknown.
