Sometimes loyalty doesn't get you anywhere. Sometimes it means that you spent a bunch of years of your life doing something that you didn't get a lot out of, and that's okay. We don't exist on this earth just to reach certain goals. We're here to enjoy ourselves. And as long as we're doing that, we're good. But what if you aren't? And what if you expected a little more from the people around you? Nobody would blame you for that.
The employee in this story was ultimately pretty upset with how they were treated after years of dedicated service to a job, and for good reason. They had given over a decade to the position, and that's a lot of time. Think about everything that happens in a decade. Think about all the things that come and go in your life during a ten-year period. It's a period of growth, and to undergo that at a company means you must see something in it. You make sacrifices to be there, and it's understood just how important that is. It should get you at least something in return.

Let go after 11 years and not even a severance package.

Sure, you're compensated for your work, but are you appreciated beyond that? And when it comes time to go, are you getting the respect you truly deserve, or are they kicking you out the door like you never mattered? Nobody wants to be treated like yesterday's news, and it isn't a good feeling to feel like you're not being given the congratulations you feel like you earned. That's what happened here, and commenters had a lot to say about it.
