This full-time college student was working hard to pay her tuition, oftentimes taking babysitting jobs to put a little extra bread on the table. Because she was a devoted auntie at the same time, she also offered to help her brother out 2-3 times a week, but out of the goodness of her heart and her love for her niece and nephews, she refused to charge him.
That all changed when he insulted her side hustle.
Suddenly, “babysitting isn't a real job" to him, and she was wasting her time playing with kids instead of getting a real career outside of school. Well, if he didn't think her babysitting for free was a “real job,” imagine his disappointment when she refused to watch his children and was forced to either be a full-time parent or pay a real professional babysitter the market-rate.

For starters, being a full-time student is a full-time job.
If you're enrolled in a full course load, it's designed to eat up all of your free time, including late-night overthinking hours and afternoon stress sessions. Juggling a side hustle and a university student's workload is already a challenge, but sprinkling in regular family visits and helping out for hours on end implies an incredible amount of time management skills and a big heart.
This aunt didn't have to help her brother with babysitting duties; she just loved his kids. But when he started dissing the work she was doing for him for free, which she normally charged clients for, that rubbed her the wrong way. And rightfully so.

Once the real cost of childcare is put in perspective, parents who have been riding the “free help from the family” train count their blessings. Realizing how difficult it is to raise a few kids without help is a financial wakeup call, but it's always free to say please and thank you to the family members who are willing to help you out.
Especially if it's literally their livelihood to charge for such things.

As an aunt myself, I would gladly watch my nieces and nephews every now and then. Free of charge! Wow!
Yeah, I know it doesn't sound incredibly selfless, but I'm not exactly a “kid person,” so spending time with children can be costly mentally. Alas, if it were anyone else, any non-family member, or a random, I would certainly be charging above market rate to babysit their kid, but when it comes to family, I'll make an exception…
…Provided they respect the boundaries in place.
As soon as they cross over into disrespectful or insulting territory, I'm outta here! Good luck finding a sitter after scaring away the one person who was willing to help you out for free.
