Whenever possible , I try and incorporate more challenging units to break up the mandatory grammar and maths curriculum.
  • There is a children's news programme here which we watch/read articles from regularly since it's a great way to broach more complex and mature, topical matters in an age- appropriate, politically neutral manner.
  • I prepared a segment on the "French German day of friendship" at the end of January in a small lesson unit spanning a double period...

  • The country. This complaint really blindsided me (it's not even a "controversial" topic like s ed!) and leaves me genuinely speechless.
  • GDitto_New I had a complaint for making the student speak Spanish on the Spanish speaking test, for Spanish, in the speaking Spanish grade weight.

  • holtonaminute I've had both "I don't want my student learning about other cultures, and "I don't want my student learning about other religions." I always recommend homeschool
  • Sinnes-loeschen Original Poster's Reply That's not a legal possibility in Germany, school attendance is mandatory here. Shame really, otherwise said Wunderkind could simply skip school and attend university .... Wait that would be possible, but they'd need some kind of certificate for that.
  • ANeighbour Canada. I teach in a very diverse program that attracts a lot of newcomers to Canada. Had a parent during an interview tell me I disliked her son due to the colour of his skin and was saying bad things about him because of the colour of his skin. Nope. I was saying he hadn't handed anything in all year and was going to fail my class. Had nothing to do with the colour of his skin.
  • Sinnes-loeschen Original Poster's Reply Sadly that can be a way to twist the knife when some parents feel cornered. Document everything to prove that everyone is required to adhere to the same expectations. The family in my little tale is compromised of affluent Germans. in Germany, whilst I'm the "foreigner"in this constellation. It truly beggars belief what some people are willing to moan about.
  • TangerineCouch18330 The mother is teaching her child to fail because he's going to feel he's too good to do any work at all. So he will fail at his job and he will fail at his schoolwork because he's too good to do any of it.

  • Sinnes-loeschen Original Poster's Reply That's precisely what I predict. Since the child was informed of this label they constantly belittle their peers with toe-curling arrogance and simply refuse to put in any effort. Their marks have taken a serious downward trajectory as well because they're slowly entering a phase of the curriculum where certain concepts simply have to be practised to be understood. Foreign languages for instance - high IQ is beneficial, sure, but if you deem entry level gr
  • Sorry-Vanilla2354 So now we know for sure that the student, just like the parent, is only complaining about things they don't want or want to do. They should be completing every requirement just like all of the other students, and not getting special treatment just because they and their family feel they deserve it.
  • Sinnes-loeschen Original Poster's Reply That's it!!! Their marks have taking a noticeable downward turn since they were informed of the "gifted"label, they deem coursework as "beneath"them and keep whining about needing more "advanced material". Lessons are basically spent doodling or on yet another trip to the toilet. I won't even begin to unpack the hurtful, belittling comments they make towards their peers and the disrespectful attitude to all members of staff... But instead of facing the act
  • WalkingOnSunshine83 I'm laughing. Every German person I've met here in the U.S. said they hated the French.
  • pillowcase-of-eels I'm cracking up from across the border. We're literally right here. She can't keep France a secret forever! (Hallo Freund(in) - thank you for your efforts to maintain the bond between our two countries, we need it more than ever)
