Yes, you read that right: this son has already blown through $50k of Mom's money.
As Mom tells it, which you can read in it's entirety below, she gave him all that money when he was just 18 years old. I know 18 is legally an adult, but you have 0 adult life experience at that point. You're just going to blow through that money as fast as possible, without ever considering any ways to grow that money for your future.
Though she doesn't go into detail about that, she literally says that her son squandered all $50k. So… why would she give him any more money?

That reply makes it sound like this conversation is just beginning, not ending
Don't you hate when you send someone a long, thoughtout text, and they just respond with a thumbs up emoji or and "ok"?

…And questioned why she was even thinking about this at 50-ish years young.

These are smart questions to consider
Perhaps he just wants an easy handout, and knows his Mom will give into anything he requests from her. It's hard for parents to say no to their babies, even when they're all grown up. But it probably would be the best thing for him. He's a grown adult, with a girlfriend, and the 2 of them should be working in tandem to find their own way in the world.
