  • Neighbors guest keeps blocking our driveway and doesn't listen

Hi everyone, there's this neighbors guest. He drops off this girl who lives next door almost everyday.
  • He has been blocking our driveway for a year now. I warned him once in the winter.
  • Then he stopped for a few weeks. Usually I'd not care but he would go on his phone and stay inside his car for 10-20 minutes.
  • It's not public property. No we don't need to get out most of the times but I find it annoying.
  • Because he does this everyday and it's for 10-20 minutes. There were a few times that my mom had to get inside our driveway and he was there.
  • Luckily he left. Today, he did it again despite my neighbors lower driveway being open and a parking spot is next to my house that is legal and public street in parking.
  • Smiling woman standing on a porch holding a set of keys, leaning against a column outside a house.
  • Yet he was blocking our driveway. And his car was in the wrong direction. I'm not sure if I should escalate to the non emergency line because he's usually gone in 10-15 minutes.
  • Or should I talk to the neighbors. The neighbors have also been parked in our spot once or twice without permission but they will usually move it.
  • I don't wanna be a pushover because I find it troublesome and annoying. But I don't wanna be a either.
  • So when I confronted him, he was trying to make excuses and say "I was just" then he stopped.
  • I told him that I don't appreciate him doing that and it's the second time he did this.
  • I told him I don't care if its for a few minutes. In addition, there were times that he would go into our lower driveway and just load stuff inside the trunk.
  • Late at night, he would do this a few times and I find it weird. Even though that part is owned by the government.
  • Why is someone using it to load stuff inside the trunk. It's really annoying and they would slam stuff loudly every time the girl got home or they would load stuff inside the trunk.
  • Edit: we had previous parking issues with these neighbors. One time, their guest parked in our boulevard for an hr then left.
  • He's not in the running car mostly. He goes inside the house to get stuff then leaves.
  • There were times he would come by late at 1:30 am to unload things into his car using our driveway.
  • Another time, he drove in the upper driveway blocking the sidewalk as well. A lot of the times, he drops off the girl late at night and he would flash his headlights brightly, slam sh and be there for 15-20 minutes.
  • 18k_gold start blocking your neighbors driveway. when they complain tell them it's annoying isn't it? every time your guest blocks my driveway I block yours. so please talk to your friend about properly parking so we can avoid this
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply Yeah I wonder if they will get mad but I'm done being nice.
  • Constantly_Curious- This isn't about being nice or neighborly. If you want to be nice, bake cookies. But this is your driveway, your space, and this guy is not treating you very nice, is he? He's treating you like a doormat because he knows you're "being nice." Stop. Being. Nice. You don't owe your nice energy to people who use it to their own advantage and don't reciprocate.
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply Yeah you're right. I'm being too nice about it.
  • knitmama77 When my old neighbor's guests would use my front paved area to pull in and pick up/drop off, sometimes go inside to sm ke meth or whatever, I put a huge 75lb landscaping block out there. Just a few inches inside my property line off the road, and from the neighbor's driveway(yes, they had a perfectly usable driveway!) Only took the one time of the idiot coming in hot and smoking the concrete block, damaging his car, for him to stop.
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply Oh wait that's so smart... Sorry you went through that.
  • naranghim > But I don't wanna be a either. . Why not? He's already being one and has been one for a year. You haven't given him any consequences for blocking your driveway, so he sees it as a bluff. Tow his a
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply I should do that but I wonder if they will be there on time.
  • BigPhilosopher4372 Go out each time and take his picture, record you telling him to leave. Might get the point across.
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply I should do that, it would probably annoy him. I'm gonna start staring from my porch.
  • BlazingSunflowerland I have a coworker who moved to a house on a corner and they had heavy trucks using their driveway to turn around. They put two planters in the end of the driveway, with just enough room to fit a pickup between them. Everyone quit pulling into their driveway. I think a plantar down at the end of your driveway, block the side you don't want him on, would work.
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply I saw someone who lives near me put a planter in their lower driveway but issue is he blocks on the street now. Instead of going into our lower driveway.
  • throwaway_20200920 Get in the car, reverse to where he is and beep the horn until he moves. If it takes 20 minutes then use the horn for 20 minutes. See how long it takes until he decides its not worth while. At this point you have to fight fire with fire.
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply A parking war
  • knitmama77 They were, ummm, a treat.
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply Smoking meth is crazy
  • His_Name_Is_Twitler You're still being too nice
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply Yeah sadly, I do not know how to act. Because there's a lot of ppl living next door. I think I'm mostly afraid of retaliation. We have to live next to these ppl for more years. I think that's what is holding me back. I'm just gonna warn him one more time and then call parking services.
  • Some_Cartographer478 I once had a neighbor whose friends would park in my driveway. One night, I got home from work, and there was a car in my driveway. I parked behind it and made sure to block it in. Then I went inside, had dinner, and got settled in for the night. Around 11 p.m., the guy knocked on my door and asked if I could let him out. I told him I was in for the night and he'd have to wait until I left for work the next morning.
  • animalcrossinglifeee Original Poster's Reply That's a bad a move, haha. What was his reaction
