We all look forward to the weekend. It's only two days of the whole week where we can be a person. We can feel like we have autonomy, that we can do our tasks, breathe our own air, and tend to ourselves with all the self care we deserve. The work week is hectic. Spending 8 hours somewhere working is the norm, but should it be? It's most of the day, and that's not counting the commute, which most people have. By the time we get home we just want to eat, rest, and sleep well to be fresh to do it all over again the next day. Errands, laundry, cleaning, cooking, and any other responsibility can feel like they're on the backburner when you have to work all day every day.

Locking out of that mindset is a brain flip. One minute you could be surrounded by tasks piling around you, and the next you're sitting on your couch trying to take in the next 48 hours you have off. The weekend begins and you may still feel "on," and that's why it's important to scroll these lazy animal memes to lock out in a fluid transition. Letting go of the work mindset can feel uncomfortable at first. There's often a lingering sense that you should be doing something "useful." But rest has its own kind of value, even if it doesn't produce anything tangible. In fact, it's essential. Without it, the mind becomes crowded and dull, unable to think clearly or creatively. Locking out of the work mindset isn't about avoiding responsibility. It's about creating balance and choosing to be a person, not just a productive worker. In that space, you remember what it feels like to just exist, without pressure, without urgency, and without needing to prove anything at all.

My weekends are the best. They're so ritualistic, and every weekend is a practice in my inner peace and well-being. I always take a run Saturday morning, starting the weekend in a fresh state. I visit my friend who owns a thrift store and we just sit inside chatting. Then I sit at my favorite cafe and talk to friends, and usually have a dinner with friends in the evening.
