Having a cat is healing. It's peaceful. If you want to adopt, you should. It will change your life. 

We think that every cat owner realizes this sooner rather than later - cats change your life. They really do. You don't realize, when you adopt a tiny kitten, the giant effect that it will have on your life. You wouldn't think that it could. You think that it's going to be just another pet, not a whole new family member. Cats bring peace into our homes. Cuddling with your cat fills you with joy the first time that it happens and the millionth. It never stops. 

People who have never had cats, who never wanted a cat, didn't think that they could bond with a cat are generally shocked when they get one, when the cat distribution system chooses them. For the first time in their lives, they feel that meowgic that cats have. The bond you create with your cat is no less strong than any bond you make with a dog or any other animal, and it is entriely too wholesome to read about someone experiencing that for the first time in their lives.

    This is Sorsha. Her previous owners needed to find a new home for her so we gladly took her in. She was born a stray in 2014 in another state across the country. I believe she's been rehomed twice, and I'm happy to say we will be her forever family.

  • It always saddnes us to hear about cats being rehomed - once, twice… Moving with a cat is hard, going to the vet and leaving the house for half an hour is hard. Changing their entire environment and the humans who are in it must be devastating. It is a miracle that this cat did not lose his trust in humans after such experiences, that he was willing and open to be loved by you. And it is just as amazing to us that you took him in in the first place. Because that is not something that happens often, not with rehomed cats and not with older cats, and it is not something that we ever take for granted. Thank you.

    My days home with her are the best. I go to work and wish I could text her asking how her day is going. When I'm home, she follows me everywhere. The best time is just sitting next to each other on the couch doing nothing and being lazy together. She loves pets, but especially LOVES belly rubs.

    I didn't know I would be able to rest right now, and I didn't think I could take on the responsibility of a cat. I've never had a cat before. I have five elderly crested geckos (ranging 12-15 years old) who have moved with me to each apartment since leaving my childhood home 10 years ago.

  • It's amazing how stable our cats are in our lives when everything else is uprooted. We know that you're getting to experience this for the first time now, and that is beautiful in and of itself, but we have experienced this our whole lives - with the cats we've had since our childhood. It is one of the reasons we think it is so important to have pets, and cats specifically, when growing up.

    I do the best I can for them and they for sure make me sentimental. A couple years ago I took in a bearded dragon who also needed to be rehomed. She is a super cool girl who I share salad with, save the insects. I got used to their routines and they alone all brought a lot of light and happiness when I needed it the last couple of years.

    Then thing is, they just chill in their tanks. The geckos I kinda need to just leave them alone or they will be stressed. I didn't raise them to be handled. The bearded dragon is a little bit more interested in human interaction. But they're reptiles and I respect they prefer doing their thing and being left alone.

    Then came this girl. I didn't know how a cat would react to me. My partner and I recently moved in together last year so it was kind of a double whammy in milestones, our first apartment and first pet together.

    The day we brought her home, the day after Halloween, she was so scared and immediately ran under the bed. We let her know she was safe, and let her do her thing. I thought, if all she does in chill under the bed, I guess that's ok, we have a cave cat then.

    But just a few days later, she emerged from her hiding place. It seemed pretty quickly she was gaining confidence. Now SHE owns this home! I love the personality that she feels comfortable showing now! Her sass, sometimes when I talk to her is sounds like she's mirroring my words. It is so cute.

    20 years ago I had a border collie. She was my best friend. I was absolutely devastated when she passed away. It was so sudden and I was attached to her at the hip. I didn't leave my bed or go to school for 3 days. I didn't want another pet again, it felt like I would be "replacing" the bond we had.

    I would dream about her once in a while, randomly, but haven't had that for years now. Not until this past month I dreamed of her, like a visitation. It was very nice. I think Sorsha being with me feels a lot like having my childhood best friend again.
