Workers rage over company's new parking benefits, which grant employees free parking only if they have worked there for 40 years: ‘What a joke’

Companies love to come up with new employee "benefits" that only prove to be complete and utter lies.

Imagine this: You get called into your boss's office, who has a smile on their face while they invite you to sit down. Then, your boss starts to go on and on about how much they appreciate you as an employee, and how happy they are with the work you've been doing all these years you have been working for the company. Then, the boss tells you that as a token of their appreciation, the company decided to grant you a pay raise of… a whopping $1040 a year! 

Cue confused shock.

Anyone with a phone and a calculator can do the quick math and discover that $1040 a year amounts to 50 cents an hour, which anyone you ask would tell you is simply insulting to any hardworking employee. It's not even enough to fight the rise in living costs.

That was not the only insult the company in the story below was responsible for. They also decided to announce a new "parking benefit" that states that free parking would be granted to employees… but only for those who have been working for the company for at least 40 years. What a joke.

Learning of the insulting raise and the ridiculous parking benefits has caused one of the employees to go on a rant, which caused more employees to come forward and share similar stories. Keep scrolling to read it all.

  • alpineskies2 50 fi ing cents an hour in 2026? Jesus, my boss almost 20 years ago told me he hated giving out any raise of less than $1 because its insulting.

  • loki2002 Yeah, anything less than whole $1 is just embarrassing. I had a retail job in high school and they tried to hype up how a $.15 raise was really good like I was an idiot or something.

  • DabZonTwitch OP Yeah I looked at the screen for an embarrassingly long amount of time trying to figure out where I was reading it wrong. I wasn't. Then I found out how much I could hate math all over again, haven't felt that way since college!

  • elangomatt I can do you better. A few years ago my workplace did a big salary study for everyone. In their powerpoint they said 60% of all employees will be receiving raises!! Sounds good right? Well most of highest percentage raises went to the management jobs. A coworker with the same job description as me (but different duties) got a decent salary bump that he deserved because I was (and still am) making more than him due to longevity. My raise? $143 for the year. I wonder how many of those 6

  • It's been about 15 years now, so my memory of the numbers may be wildly off. But I remember that the costs went up about 5%. And the company transferred 30% of the cost to the employees. So, really, essentially a big pay cut for the employees.

  • doomerunicorn Wow. The social security COLA for this year is 2.8%, which isn't great to begin with, and there's no excuse for a company to not match that at the very least. And unless you make 17.85/hour or less, you're getting less than 2.8%.

  • DabZonTwitch OP Yeah I make an okay enough salary (still well below market and overworked and underpaid by a mile) but this was such a slap in the face. Especially with everything constantly increasing and them hyping this up for WEEKS in meetings. And on top of that, trying to save for a baby I thought maybe this could help but what a joke.

    It's hard to tell whether someone should stay at a company like this or try their luck somewhere else.  But at least they can complain for as much as they want…
