Workers rage over company's new parking benefits, which grant employees free parking only if they have worked there for 40 years: ‘What a joke’

  • Man using parking ticket machine
  • Company I work for announced "new parking benefits" and "pay increases based on market research" this week...

Turns out you get the free parking benefit if you've worked there for 40 YEARS and it's got a waiting list for approval.
  • Oh and the pay increase to make sure we don't leave to take a better paying job elsewhere? $1040 a year. Incredible stuff! But my manager made sure to crack
  • plenty of jokes about how "management is excluded so they don't get any increases" along the way. I'm sure he'll struggle to find his way back home from another vacation with his lack of pay increase.
  • Alright, that was my mini rant for the day hope you enjoyed the view into the dystopia.
  • alpineskies2 50 fi ing cents an hour in 2026? Jesus, my boss almost 20 years ago told me he hated giving out any raise of less than $1 because its insulting.
  • SabrinaFaire I got a $.14 raise in 2006 and my manager apology and said she was embarrassed.
  • DabZonTwitch OP You got an apology. I got a congratulations! lol but seriously I'm glad your manager was at least cool about it that's absolutely abysmal
  • Businessman in Office Pondering Decision
  • loki2002 Yeah, anything less than whole $1 is just embarrassing. I had a retail job in high school and they tried to hype up how a $.15 raise was really good like I was an idiot or something.
  • DabZonTwitch OP "If you just commit your whole life to us here at RetailCorpse, one day you too can give out 15 cent raises to unsuspecting high schoolers! But now with a somehow equally depressing benefit package!"
  • imallouttafɩ ks I got a .24 cent raise this year and I work for a credit union. And they wonder why turnover is so high.
  • DabZonTwitch OP Yeah I looked at the screen for an embarrassingly long amount of time trying to figure out where I was reading it wrong. I wasn't. Then I found out how much I could hate math all over again, haven't felt that way since college!
  • Square Medicine_9171 Needing to pay for parking in order to go to work is evil
  • DabZon Twitch OP No, it's not evil! You see you only have to pay for the first 40 years. That's what makes them so nice and generous
  • elangomatt I can do you better. A few years ago my workplace did a big salary study for everyone. In their powerpoint they said 60% of all employees will be receiving raises!! Sounds good right? Well most of highest percentage raises went to the management jobs. A coworker with the same job description as me (but different duties) got a decent salary bump that he deserved because I was (and still am) making more than him due to longevity. My raise? $143 for the year. I wonder how many of those 6
  • DabZonTwitch OP sick on that But hey, 60% probably looked PowerPoint slide right? Those other numbers would just ugly up the data with meaningless things like supporting information and facts. I hate it smh hope you spent that $143 on a tank of gas to get you to a new job interview lol
  • WumpusFails I was working in accounting at this small company. The company announced that, due to increases in health insurance costs, they were going to have the employees pick up the excess.
  • It's been about 15 years now, so my memory of the numbers may be wildly off. But I remember that the costs went up about 5%. And the company transferred 30% of the cost to the employees. So, really, essentially a big pay cut for the employees.
  • DabZonTwitch OP Absolutely wild lol we're increasing your pay to take more of it away. Such a baffling way to p' your workforce off
  • Hour_Ad_6415 I once got a dime raise and was told not to tell anybody. Wouldn't want anyone to get jealous. #%!
  • doomerunicorn Wow. The social security COLA for this year is 2.8%, which isn't great to begin with, and there's no excuse for a company to not match that at the very least. And unless you make 17.85/hour or less, you're getting less than 2.8%.
  • DabZonTwitch OP Yeah I make an okay enough salary (still well below market and overworked and underpaid by a mile) but this was such a slap in the face. Especially with everything constantly increasing and them hyping this up for WEEKS in meetings. And on top of that, trying to save for a baby I thought maybe this could help but what a joke.
  • I'd rather it have just been done without telling me atp, don't set an expectation if it's not going to be worthwhile
