  • [I refuse] to give up my home office for my partners visiting friends who decided to extend their stay by a week

my partner's two friends from out of town came to visit for what was supposed to be four days. fine, I like them well enough, I cleared my schedule a bit and made space.
  • on day three they announced they were extending the trip by a week because they were having such a good time. did not ask. announced.
  • I work from home full time. I have a dedicated office, proper setup, second monitor, the whole thing. it is not a luxury, it is how I do my job.
  • that evening one of them asked if they could use my office as their bedroom since the pullout in the living room was uncomfortable. I said
  • no, I need it for work starting at 8am. she seemed genuinely surprised that this was not negotiable.

  • the next morning I am in my office on a call and I hear them in the kitchen loudly complaining that the apartment is too small for four people and
  • someone should have thought about that before inviting them.
  • my partner asked me later if I could maybe do my work from the couch for the week so the guests could have the room.
  • I said no. I said I was happy to have them here for the original four days and I have been flexible
  • about a lot of things this week but I am not doing my job from the couch for seven days because they decided to extend without asking anyone.

  • cherry_fairyx. they extended without asking and then complained the apartment was too small. your office is not the problem here. NTA
  • Medical-Pot... NTA. Why don't they get a hotel? Their holiday doesn't take priority over your job.
  • CakeZealou... NTA your better than me because after my call I would've told them to pack up and to go to a hotel
  • Educational... Don't mess with people's jobs. They are messing with your job. Time to stay elsewhere.
  • Vegetable-S... Your partner could SHOULD be Defending YOU They must Choose you or lose you
  • Moist_Sessi... Let them know that if they don't like the accommodations they can get themselves a hotel.
  • 21stCentury... Obviously, no. Hopefully making it clear they are in the way will help them leave sooner.
  • THOUGHTC... You invited them and now they are squatting and won't leave EVER! Your partner and you are fools for extending their stay. I would TELL them to leave the "too small" space NOW.
  • No_Stage_6... I don't understand this kind of audacity. You're visiting, you decide to go extend your stay ( because free) and then you have complaints? You can go to a hotel.
