'He got his happy ending': Rescuer takes in kitties who need extra care, fosters them with love, and helps each one find a forever home

Some cats just need someone to not give up on them. 

This rescuer takes in the cats that usually get labeled as too much. The ones who don't settle, who hide, make messes, or get passed from home to home. Instead of giving up, they stick with it and work through it, one cat at a time.

Mattis had already been through four homes and was written off, but he was just scared and needed time. Nisse was so nervous he knocked things over and hid, but still found small ways to play from under the dresser. Melker stayed close at night, climbing onto a pile of pillows just to be near someone. Caesar was terrified of hands and loud sounds, but slowly learned to trust through routine and consistency. Molly took longer to open up, but once she did, she leaned into it fully and loved to cuddle.

None of it was quick or easy. It meant letting them hide, cleaning up messes, adjusting the space, and waiting things out. It meant paying attention to what each cat needed instead of expecting them to adjust right away. Progress came in small steps that slowly added up.

It really shows that some cats just need a bit of love and patience. Once they feel safe, everything starts to change. The same cats that seemed impossible turned into affectionate companions. They just needed someone willing to give them the chance.

    stable so she didn't have to hear him; a room which wasn't escape proof so I had to come home earlier from the trip I was on so I could take him immediately sweet boy was just really, really scared and turned into the most wonderful, loving companion.

    Melker - Scaredy cat who likely had a human at some point but was found near a rest stop and gas station-possibly dumped from a vehicle and abandoned. Only around a year old and very unbothered by loud noise like the vacuum so he'd probably been by that road a while.

    I sleep with a lot of pillows and every night he'd get on top of the "pillow pile" and settle down right above my head (sometimes kinda trickling down like a Dalí clock).

    If cats can be autistic, this one definitely was. We started using vocal cues so I could let him know what to expect in different situations and he got really good at it. Should've gotten those talk buttons!

They eventually were adopted again and ended up with the other volunteer I'm closest with Molly's cat friend was the chillest and clingiest ever, but she herself was quite timid and careful. Took a while to trust me. Once she did, though, she loooved to cuddle and would often sleep belly up.

  • It takes a lot of work, but it’s so worth it. It’s not quick or easy, and there are probably plenty of moments where it feels like nothing is changing. But sticking with it makes all the difference. Seeing a cat go from scared and unsure to relaxed and trusting is something you can’t really replace. All that time and effort adds up, and the result makes it worth every bit of it.

  • You can see how these cats came to trust this person over time. At first they kept their distance and didn’t want much to do with anyone. Slowly they started getting closer, sticking around a little longer, letting their guard down bit by bit. Nothing forced, just time and consistency. Now they look comfortable and safe, like they know they’re okay there.
