Look, we all understand the impulse to prove yourself in the workplace, especially when you're young and green. But you can find a way to carve space for yourself without stepping on other people's toes. You cannot assume that the way you would like to see things done is more preferable for everyone, especially when there are other coworkers whose specific tasks and responsibilities have been to decipher the most efficient and effective way of doing something.
The author made it clear that her job was largely administrative but required a sense of practicality and a deep intuition for what lawyers and clients need the most. This 26-year-old may have been a lawyer, but he clearly did not know what he needed, as his “process” proved to be wildly ineffective.
