What do we think about this story?
Although many folks pointed out that it may be an exaggerated tale, it's an interesting look at the way that some folks try to have a work-life balance. It seems like as a lawyer, you really do sacrifice most of your free time to the job. You're basically always on call. There are some jobs that just work this way, and not everyone is cut out for them.

While taking the story with a grain of salt, a lot of people found the tale interesting and relatable

Recently while on the train, I saw a lawyer who was trying to have a phone call with a client. The train was crowded; he continually lost service between stops, and the client simply would not tell him the information he needed. He looked stressed, but also accustomed to being stressed.
His client had gone to the dentist for a tooth ache, and they took out the wrong tooth! That alone was surprising, but later in their call, I heard him echoing what she was saying. Lo and behold, this woman had gone to another dentist, and they had also taken out the wrong tooth.
As interesting as this story was, this lawyer couldn't get the woman to understand her role in it as his client. He kept asking her to clarify. He kept saying that she needed to get this paper work today, because they needed it for tomorrow. I was second-hand stressin' out for this dude, and I didn't even know him!
I hope his client finally got the right tooth yanked, and I hope she wins money, if that really did play out in the way she claimed.
Anyway, my point here is that lawyers are always going to be working off the clock, because that's when they can talk to their clients! Those clients work 9-5s, so their lawyers need to navigate around it, even if that lawyer is clinging to a swerving train underground.

Other people thought that there were appropriate ways to not be working all the time
But honestly, the description sounds like someone who is still working through the weekend. I'd also count it as working if you're thinking about work during your day to day life with the kids!
