Teacher's assistant realizes she is being fired.

Hmm…
It's interesting how this is phrased. There were multiple complaints? That could mean any number of things.
However, they're right that teachers are super burnt out from their jobs, and I imagine a teacher's assistant makes even less money than an actual instructor, which must compound that burnout. Something like 12% of teachers like their jobs right now, which are just dismal numbers. It's not a job that anyone is exactly thriving in… but at the same time, I don't think most teachers are getting fired for showing up with low enthusiasm and bags under their eyes.
Teachers work so hard and get so little in return, and we can only hope that their working conditions improve. At this rate, there's going to be nobody left who even wants to do that job within just a few years. And we need teachers so bad right now, too. These kids can't read!

A lot of people didn't see this as the boss gloating
Rather, they thought that the boss probably had very little to do with the firing. Instead, maybe he was remorseful. Maybe he misses having them around. Their impact will probably be felt long after this teacher's aide has left. That's the beautiful thing about being a teacher: you'll never know the entirety of your impact on your students. But trust, it's significant.
Just think about it: the teachers you disliked were probably really strict and mean, but maybe they taught you how to study better. Maybe their mean attitude made you resolve to yourself that you'd never act like that. And we all know the impact that a great teacher can have on students. They can inspire a career or guide a student toward finding their passion.
