Ironworker fired from $28 million dollar project after company demands he work with a Temu welding tool

• For example, if you try to buy clothing from one of these sites, you'll get a shirt that has threads sticking out of it, and it's made from an itchy material, and it will fall apart after its maiden voyage into the washing machine. If you buy a computer from one of these sites for $6, do you really think it won't catch on fire? And if you buy a suspiciously cheap couch for $30, you're going to wind up with a few cheap cushions glued onto some wire, and it'll be the most uncomfortable couch you've ever sat on.

  With that in mind! Can you imagine the surprise and dismay that the workers at this cement plant must've felt, when they were given Temu-quality tools?

• Here's what happened, as this guy explains: 

  Multi-millionaire dollar company that had just received a 28 million dollar contract. They bought me a $60 welding machine. 10% duty cycle. 🤦

  Brother, I am so sorry to hear that. The good news is that you probably saved yourself a lot of hassle. This seems like an… unreliable item, shall we say. For $60? For a welding tool? I mean, that thing seems like the most firey firehazard one could imagine.

  Here's the $60 welding machine with a 10% duty cycle. As one commenter explained, that means that for every 1 minute the machine is being used, it has to rest for 9 minutes to avoid overheating. What a huge pain that must be! There were numerous people who declared that this guy was being set up to fail, and that such a tool should never be used on a professional site.

  Funny enough, this person noted in a comment that "I got hired to repair production equipment. This idea of building a canopy came months later. This design was scrapped." The worker also claimed that the intent of this project was just to do it as cheaply as possible. Which like, yeah, that totally checks out! They stayed under budget and got nothing done. Great.

  I hated how they brought me into HR and basically told me I didn't know what I was doing because why is it taking me so long to build a d-mn canopy. Mind you, my supervisor was a general laborer all his life. He didn't know the first thing about fabrication and welding.

  Friend you were setup to fail. They found a real wicked way to blame for something so you would be able to collect unemployment insurance. That’s why they are a multimillion dollar company.

  Don’t dwell on that issue, you never had a chance.

  this is confusing.. why didn't the cement plant hire a guy/crew/company that has their own commercial welder to do a job? Someone with a mobile welding rig I see everywhere. Are you an employee at the cement plant doing a job you were hired to do and they had you build this thing as a side project with a welding machine that they provided?

  They wanted to do it as cheaply as possible because all management cared about was staying within budget so they could get their annual bonuses at the end of the year.

• In the end though, things did work out for this guy! 

  They shared in another comment that in the aftermath of this firing, they found another job opportunity in Texas. And guess what? This job sent the worker to school! They shared that they “so definitely landed somewhere better. I am immensely grateful and love that company.”

  Love this so much. Sometimes life has a way of turning our darkest (and most ridiculous, in this guy's case) times into our brightest, best opportunities. Best wishes to this guy! I bet this fellow sleeps great at night knowing they don't have to use the world's cheapest tools to work for a bunch of cheapskates.
