"From street survival to luxury penthouse naps… the cat distribution system doesn’t miss"
Pepper wasn’t always ours.
She actually belonged to one of the apartment’s security guards. He used to take care of her, fed her, and kept her close. But when he got sick, he couldn’t look after her anymore. And just like that, Pepper kind of slipped into the background.
For a year or two, she wandered around the area. Not really anyone’s, but not completely alone either. The kind of cat you’d see from time to time and wonder where she goes at night.
Then one day, she decided.
We were actually talking about getting a pet, but honestly, we live in a tiny space so we weren’t even sure if it made sense. We were still in the “maybe someday” stage.
Pepper didn’t care about our plans.
She started showing up. Sitting near us. Following us around a little. Staying longer each time. Like she already made up her mind and we were just catching up.
And somehow, that was it.
No grand moment, no official adoption. Just a quiet decision from a former stray who had been through enough and decided, “Yeah, this will do.”
She’s been with us for almost 2 years now, and somewhere along the way, our tiny space became her kingdom.
Now she owns the bed, the couch, our routines, basically everything.
We thought we were choosing when to get a cat. Turns out, we were just waiting to be chosen.

You have a very sweet little girl there. I’ve now got two cats that I wasn’t looking for,(two girls), and their brother is just two houses away so we see him some days too.
Such a heartwarming story. Thank you for taking her in and having a wonderful life
I am so glad Pepper eventually found a soft and safe place to land!
And yes, as you have learned, it’s their world. We are fortunate enough to be allowed to live in it with them. They just see us as big cats who need them to get us to “cat” better.
