Stepmom praises her husband for paying for his daughter's college tuition at her graduation party, despite her mom paying most of her tuition: 'Mom worked extra shifts for three years to do it, was sitting at the same table.'

She was out of line for that.

Good people don't try to make their family members' accomplishments all about them. If your daughter wins an Olympic gold medal in swimming, and you go around telling everyone that the only reason she was able to accomplish that was that you drove her to the pool every day, you have an ego problem. It's perfectly acceptable for the gold medal winner to thank her parents for supporting her and driving her to the pool, because they did play a part in her success. But solely attributing her hard work and dedication to you as her parents, because you foot the bill, is insulting to the hard work she puts in every day. 

The same goes for more run-of-the-mill accomplishments, like graduating from college. A parent paying for their child's college education does not mean that they should get all the credit for their kid's graduation. Their kid had to wake up every day, go to class, and earn the degree like everyone else. They didn't have as difficult a time as someone who worked their way through college and paid for it all on their own, but they still deserve to be celebrated by their friends and family.

The young lady in this story is still mad that her stepmom gave her dad all the credit for paying her college tuition at her graduation party. She's so mad that she's considering skipping his retirement party out of fear that she'll give a similar speech.
